Yeah, the recent Google updates clearly shows that you wont get the same SEO benefits as you got before from commenting on high PR sites, but still commenting on these sites does some good for you, you have brighter chances of getting more clicks to your recent posts and to improve your Alexa ranking.

Thanks for the great list. Actually I have heard that there is a formula like 5 links of PR 4 pages and 4 links of PR 3 page will induce PR 2 to your page. Is this true ? Is there any formula implemented by Google ?

Sorry for two back to back comments, a question arose in my mind, how many backlinks should we build a day? I have read that too many backlink building may invite Google to punish you. How many backlinks are normal? I have noticed in some blogs that I leave only one comment and around 70-100 links are generated to my site from that single comment. Is it dangerous?

There is nothing like how many backlinks you need to build a day. Some might be effective some might not. You get random results on each ocassion. Consistent backlink building would help you gain regular flow of traffic. Your blog ranking, niche , type of readers – everything need to be considered. And Google seem to take backlinks in lighter sense now a days. So need not worry much on that issue. Even Page ranks seem to take backlinks as a lighter criteria in the last PR update made by Google. But When your blog reaches grater heights – 70-100 backlinking producing site may lead you to some serious issues. So be careful with those sites. I have seen some of my friends doubting that their sites sudden downfall might be due to such sites.
Yes I left one comment a blog freefilehouse (dot) net and after a few days, I noticed in Google Webmaster Tools that more than 200 backlinks are generated from that site. Although my intention was not to get a backlink as I only believe in “Citing” of your content and stay of visitors. When you post quality content and visitors stay long on it and share it on social networks, you get ranked well. I have noticed that the more you get +1d your content on Google+, the more your ranking gets higher. Other social bookmarking influences less.
